Bill and I met with Leslie Katayama, a former colleague from the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford University, where Bill and I have both sat on the board. She wanted to pick our brains given our vast experience in grassroots and outside-the-box thinking.
She is the new executive director of the San Bruno Community Foundation, the nonprofit created by the city of San Bruno to administer the $70 million in restitution funds received from PG&E after the tragic 2010 gas pipeline explosion. She has an unusual but exciting challenge to figure out how to utilize the $70 million to benefit the entire community for the long term.
